Naming your account When creating an account, please keep in mind that we require your account name to be the same as your character name. If you haven't decided on your character yet, don't worry! It can always be changed later. Additionally, while we allow players to have more than one character, we do require that they all have separate accounts.
Introduction After creating an account and making yourself familiar with our various Rules and codes of conducts, the next thing you’ll want to do is begin working on your character. Here on Bleach Gotei you may play as a Shinigami, Hollow Breed, Quincy, or a Human. All of these races are unique, so be sure to read up on each one to find the race that best suits your character concept.
Be sure to give all of the rules a good read through before starting on your character, as you may miss important rules of thumb that should be considered while making your character. For ease of use, you can refer to our Rules Index for where all of our rule topics are.
By this point in time you have probably received a PM (Indicated by a pop up over the "Messages" tab along the top of your screen) asking if you’d like to join the Big Brother, Big Sister Program. This is a community run program designed to help new members easily get used to the flow of Bleach Gotei and get them familiar with the setting, our community, and character development here on our site.
This program is not for everyone--especially if you are already well versed in forum roleplays and this comes naturally to you--but it’s highly recommended that all new members consider joining the program if only so they can receive additional help and feedback in creating their character application.
Once you have picked a race and are savvy with the ins and outs of Bleach Gotei, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with our Application Templates. While you are not required to adhere these templates, you are required to include the information it seeks and fulfill all specified minimum requirements.
If you need to take a break from working on your application, feel free to post it in the New Applications board before its finished. Just be sure to put [WIP] in the title of the post so that the staff know it is not ready to be reviewed yet. Once you are finished, be sure to tag your thread with [FINISHED], if you have already posted your application editing the first post using the full editor will allow you to edit its title. Be sure to make two or three posts after your initial post in your application. These posts don't need to contain anything substantive right now, but are there to be edited later. They will be where you can keep your stats & skills, powers, threads, and any other information you’d want readily available to people looking at your character once you are approved.
Once your application is finished, a member of staff will come along and check your application for any errors, inconsistencies, and help you with your power, if necessary. After your application is up to our standards, you'll be approved for 1,500 Base GP to start, which you can spend however you like on your stats and skills. All players are encouraged to ask for a grade on their application. In asking for a grade, your application will be additionally scored between 0 and 1,500 GP. This GP is Earned GP (just like the GP you get from writing posts) and can be used just like your 1,500 starting GP.
We don’t expect anyone’s first attempt at a character to be the best. For this reason, we allow every application a chance at a second grade. Any time after you complete your third in-character thread you may revamp your application and submit it for another grade. This revamped application will need to be posted in the Requests Board and will be regraded by the same person who gave your first review. Feel free to use the advice given in your original grade to help with any changes you might make.
Your revamped application will be regraded, and will receive a new score. This score can be higher or lower than your original score or even identical. You are not required to take this new score, and as such can submit your application for a regrade simply for the feedback.
Once you have completed your application, you are ready to begin your journey into the IC world. To do this, you will need thread partners, people willing to write with you. There are two common ways of getting people to write with you: creating a Metagame thread and talking to people in the Chatbox (commonly referred to as the CB or CBox).
A Metagame thread is a thread in which you summarize your character what you’d like to gain from threading with them. It’s ideal to break down what sort of races you are wanting to interact with and why. Be sure to provide as much information as possible.
The latter option is simply joining in the Chat. You get access the Chat by clicking the rightmost tab at the very top of the forum labeled “Chat”. Bleach Gotei uses a Discord server which can either be run in the browser window, or can be run from a desktop application, which is free to download. You are required to register a profile in order to start connecting to servers, and can then connect to BG's server with the Chat link mentioned previously. The name which others will see is up to your discretion, and if you already use Discord, we can set you up with a "nickname" that only appears on our server. We encourage you to use your character's name.
Please keep in mind: The chat is moderated by a group of people specifically dedicated to keeping the chatbox in line. These people are not necessarily forum staff, and as such cannot approve applications or requests, but if you have any problems in the chatbox or the conduct in it, they can help you. Chat Moderators are in a specific usergroup as indicated on the right-hand side of Discord. Bleach Gotei Staff members have their own, separate usergroup in Discord which generally appears first in the list.
Introduction After you’ve been awarded your base GP on your application, you’ll want to distribute that to your stats and skills so everyone has an idea of how powerful your character is. Shinigami especially will want to do this so they can quickly see what rank in their division they reasonably should fall in. While power alone is not enough to get a position on the roster, most divisions have a skill or power requirement for high ranking officers.
Distributing your GP is a fairly straightforward process in which you can read more about in our Stats and Skills Rules.
Every character has access to our Universal Skills: Weapon Proficiency, Hakuda, Hoho, and Reiatsu Perception. While they may have different names in each race, they all effectively do the same thing. It’s when you get into the Racial Skills that things get interesting.
Every race has a power skill which is used to judge the effectiveness of their power. Shinigami have Zanpakutō Resonance, Hollow Breeds have Hollow Evolution, Quincy have Reishi Manipulation and Humans have a power skill of their desired name. While all these skills have different flavors and may manifest in different ways, they all do the same things for their respective races.
Beyond Power Skills we also have Racial Skills which each have unique features to offer their race. Shinigami may choose between two of the three schools of Kidō, Hollow Breeds have Cero/Bala and Hierro/Regeneration, and Quincy may choose two out of Kirchenleid, Holy Artifacts and Blut. Humans have two custom skills that they may fill with anything that is appropriate for their character concept.
Lastly, every race has a free Custom Skill slot. This Custom Skill can be filled with any sort of skill that fits into your character concept and should mesh very well with who they are and how they do things. You may also choose to fill this slot with the last of the three racial skills you haven't picked yet.
Once you’ve designed everything to your satisfaction and posted it in your application a member of staff will come along and make sure all of your math checks out, and ensure your power and custom skills are fair to both you and other players.
After everything has been checked out, it’s up to you to decide what to do next. From this point on it’ll be up to you to create the story for your character and help shape the world around them. If at any point in time you feel stuck or are unsure of what to do with your character, reaching out to anyone on the site who you are comfortable with is always encouraged.
