Had it not been for the aching limbs, the anguish and the sorrows, the night would have been a beautiful one. Soft bandages kissed the skin which had a soothing ointment applied to it. It could not cure the damage that had been done to it, but it granted her one or two redeeming moments of serenity and freedom from pain. Moments Seryu used to breath. For the Shinigami months had long turned into days, time passed and mattered little anymore to the old being. It had been a while since Seryu had lived through several days so clearly while being under the impression that time was passing slowly, much slower than ever - and it irritated her. Still suffering the consequences of her encounter with the King, the Lieutenant’s body had yet to recover. Sekai’s absence had only left another hole inside the woman’s heart but Seryu reminded herself constantly that she had to let go of the little girl, no matter how strong and kind she was.
Sekai needed to regain the sort of humanity her kind had taken from her.
Slowly and with difficulty, the now one-armed Shinigami wrapped what little remained of her shihakusho around her shoulders, to cover herself up and protect her sensitive skin from the elements. Seryu had long forgotten how many days it took her to even wake up from her slumber but soon after interacting with Sekai she had realized that her body wasn’t healing anymore. Missing a limb put her at disadvantage, but it wasn’t the lack of an arm that made Seryu go through all sorts of struggles simply to get up and move. It was the zanpakuto she was missing. The sword was no longer within her possession and the current circumstances wouldn’t allow Seryu to defend herself without it. Most likely she had dropped it somewhere around the streets where Erasmus had afflicted her and she was now on her way to return what rightfully belonged to her.
But there were also other things Seryu was looking for.
The scars weren’t closing, the loss of blood had dried her body out and the lack of a proper amount of reishi was getting to her. For the sake of surviving in this state Seryu needed to return to the Soul Society and in order to do so she needed her zanpakuto. Considering how frequent her visits to the realm of the living had been over the past year Seryu doubted that anyone would come looking for her, she had been gone for much longer than this before after all. But for once the woman decided not to complain but rather see the positive aspects in it.
Seryu was not ready to return to the Soul Society just yet.
She wasn’t ready to meet up with her own kind either. After the latest events there were simply too many unanswered questions, questions that were vital to her survival and before she could go home she needed those questions answered. She needed help.
The truth was, Erasmus had done something to her. He had given her something she didn’t want, something that wasn’t under her control and had enough strength to overpower her the moment she became too lenient. Seryu was familiar with that sort of monster, she had seen it before and because she knew what it was capable of she was afraid. Seryu was afraid and lonely and the first decision she had made after being able to think clear again was the one that she would avoid her loved ones as good as she could.
She wouldn’t end up like Nagisa. She wouldn’t hurt them like Nagisa had.
She would find help, someone, anyone out there who could help her to get rid of this spawn of evil that was growing inside of her was a welcomed friend. Unfortunately it didn’t took Seryu long to realize that she didn’t really have any friends left and even as she made her way through the streets of Karakura and picked up the sword that was hers she had to accept that even Asura was long gone. The spirit had vanished, the blade was dead.
She was alone.
Unable to heal herself, her own body, her own reiatsu rejected the thing Erasmus had forcefully planted inside of her and Seryu Akamine was left with no options other than to be discovered and revealed as the abomination she now was or to die a slow and lonely death. Until he would come to see her again, to see what he had done and thoroughly enjoy the sight of her suffering. But even in these moments of hopelessness Seryu found something that lit a little spark inside her heart. Hope had always played the most cruel games because once it was there you could barely live without it - and having it shattered was among the most heart wrenching experiences one could ever have.
But after everything she had been through until now, how did that even matter anymore?
Months had passed since she had seen him the last time but Seryu kept her memory of him very close to her heart. Fairly unimpressive in appearance, the inquisitive Arrancar was one of the very few fond memories Seryu had before she met Jian. Everything about him seemed plain and yet she couldn’t help but think of him with a smile on her lips. He was a knowledgeable man, and he was kind - much like Sekai. He was one of the very few skilled healers Seryu had ever met and she knew he would be able to help her. Leaning her back against the nearby wall, Seryu who had supported herself by holding onto her zanpakuto now slowly drifted to the ground and moaned as she felt the stinging pain of sliced up flesh creeping through her body.
“Takua,” she whispered meekly, only to repeat his name a little louder on her next try, “Takua, where are you? I need you. I really do.” The pathetic attempt to seek help from someone she barely knew. Someone who was blind. Blind and frail and weak. How could he possibly find her in this huge city? How could she even be sure someone like him was still alive?
They were both so small compared to the monsters that roamed these worlds after all.
