Fáelán let out a long sigh as he sorted out all the papers that were strewn around the table in front of him and placed them all in a folder. The man stood up from his chair and stretched causing several of his joints to crack, the noise echoing around the silent liabrary. He quickly glanced around to check that no one was nearby to hear the noise, or at least get annoyed by it. 'Nope, still empty.' Another sigh escaped his lips as he patted down his uniform and adjusted it so it was no longer twisted from his shuffling around in his chair.
Fáelán placed his chair back under the table and picked up his folder that he had spent the last few hours working on. His cousin had asked for a proper proposal for the research Fal wanted to do, but due to the fact Fal had yet to be allocated any kind of space in the castle he'd had to come and do his work in the library. The Quincy tucked the folder under his arm a he left the library and headed for Aodhs office.
The man chuckled lightly as he walked, 'Aodh decided he wanted nothing to do with Quincy and now hes one of the most influential Quincy around. Possilbly the only one higher is Frey herself.' The memories of how unprofessional and silly she could be ran through his mind, 'On second thought, perhaps he is the most influential after all.' He shook his head as he climbed the stairs to the office area, thoughts for another time, right now he had to at least try to be a professional himself as he was asking for workspace and resources that could be in short supply.
As Fáelán walked down the corridor he noticed a door with the name of the other Sternritter writen on it, 'Where is she? What is she doing? Will i get to meet her anytime soon?' The man only had a few seconds to mull these questions over before he reached the door with Aodhs name on it. He cleared his throat as he knocked on the door, and patiently awaited a response.

The office of the Sternritter was rather large with a huge desk that had to be some sort of antique, well preserved to, with a modern leather computer chair while at the other side of the desk there were two comfortable looking chairs for guests to sit at. The walls where lined with cabinets, book cases and shelves filled with books, minor Quincy artefacts and devices but the only one that looked like it had been recently used was a modern looking bar cabinet. The room would be considered spacious if it where not the fact that the vast majority of the flooring and surfaces where covered in old, often damaged looking, cardboard storage boxes. These contained vast amounts of poorly sorted paper documents which represented decades of records kept by the Quincy rulers. Aodh had swiftly realised that the Elder Council had let their bureaucracy become more and more bloated and inefficient over time followed by King Markus had carried on their tradition. Weylin had attempted to fix things but had barely made a dent during his time as King while Freyleif had failed to manage any real improvements during her first reign due to a lack of popular support and too many other distractions. When Walter took over things had seen a slight improvement before vanishing and now Frey was in charge again.
Aodh had made it his mission to try and find valuable information amongst these records while ordering teams of knights to begin organising and digitising all government records starting with the newest ones before working through the older bits and pieces. The boxes in this room represented only a fraction of the full amount and where only focused on military expenditure as well as formal diplomatic dealings by the Throne.
Upon Aodh's desk rested a laptop, currently in sleep mode, a vast array of papers some printed while others where handwritten. A single empty whiskey glass sat balancing atop a haphazardly stacked pile of pages. Most of these that he was currently working on where to do with the current roster of knights and their assignments throughout the world. Then there was Aodh's head lying heavy on top of a record book he'd been revising, his cheek pressed against the words on the page as he drooled onto the documents.
He had fallen asleep at his desk, again, as he worked into the late hours of the night. Hearing the knock on his door the man blinked groggily and sat up straight as he glanced around feeling disorientated. Squinting around at the out of focus room he frowned and looked over his table before find his glasses which he put back on letting his sight sharpen immediately.
Clearing his throat he ran a hand through his hair. "Yes?" he croaked before clearing his throat again and speaking up more clearly "Yes? Come in please."

Fáelán heard a call from teh other side of the door asking him to enter, he opened the door and stepped through closing the door behind him. He saluted the sternritter in front of him, "I'm sorry for interupting you, sir." With a glance around the room he saw the boxes of papers and tomes spread around, when his eyes glanced back at the man over the table he noticed a small amount of drool on his chin. He covered his mouth with his hand and coughed lightly to try and cover his chuckle and smile, "I do hope you weren't busy, sir." The man waved his free hand at all the debris around the room.
Fáelán walked towards the desk, carefully stepping over the piles of papers and avoiding the stacks of books entirely, 'They seem unsteady enough without me going anywhere near them.' When the man managed to get to the desk, he untucked the folder from under his arm and offered it to his superior. "You asked me to prepare a proposal for the things i wish to research as well as the equipment and expected deadlines for said research." He quickly looked over the table in front of him. It was even more cluttered than the floor of the office, he was surprised Aodh could even see past the mountians of paperwork he seemed to have collected. "However you do seem to have a lot of reading to keep you busy for a while. I could give you a brief rundown of what I plan to do verbally, if that would suit you better right now, sir."
Fáelán turned slightly and looked over all of the books and papers, "If you don't mind me asking, sir, what are all of these papers and books for? And is there no one else who can help you with whatever it is that you are doing?" He turned back around, his face covered with both confussion and concern. Fáelán was worried about his cousin, Aodh seemed to be quite rundown. But if these huge piles of paperwork were what he had to deal with, he couldn't blame him. If only the other Sternritter were around to help, perhaps then the workload would be lighter and it would get done faster.

"Oh it's just you." he replied running his hands warily over his face and pulling his glasses off. Rubbing his eyes he pulled a cloth out of the glasses case sitting on the table and wiped at the lens before putting them back on. "When am I not busy?" he asked rhetorically.
Yawning he closed the duty roster in front of him and shoved it into the top shelf of his drawer. He had spent days trying to plan out ways to balance the limited manpower of the Order for all the needs of both the military and the people they were supposed to protect. It always came down to simply needing more Quincy, needing more powerful Quincy and needing more knowledgeable Quincy. In fact it was this very reason that he had decided to give his cousin a chance despite the man's apparent lack of scholarly experience.
"Also you don't need to call me sir in private Fáelán." he said with a tired chuckle while he leant forward and took the offered folder. Shoving the documents lying messily all over the surface in front of him he made space to put the assembled papers that his cousin had prepared before flicking them open to glance. There seemed a lot of work put into this which, frankly, surprised Aodh. He was used to his cousin being...well a bit of a lazy layabout. The idea that he'd done all this in the short time since they first spoke about it shocked him. This was actually the second bit of information around Fáelán's planned research that Aodh had seen. The first had been a lengthy list that his cousin had sent to the requisition office for the equipment his ideal lab would need as well as resources.
"Take a seat cousin." he gestured at the seats across the desk while he read at the folder.
"Hmm?" he asked "Oh yes there are. This is only the most recent documents over a very narrow view. Frankly we don't have enough staff for this sort of thing never mind for even more essential duties. Hopefully with our new Monarch and in time, if we can show our people that the Order is both strong and stable, then we can get more recruits.
Yawning he leant back in his seat giving up on reading the folders contents, he'd go over it later after he got something to eat. "A verbal update would be great Fáelán. Please begin in your own time."

Fáelán nodded at his cousin as he took a seat facing his cousin. "Well, Aodh, I have already been experimenting with pure reishi, its uses and refined forms. As I slightly demonstrated the other day, I have already started to learn how to manipulate reishi that I consume and temporarily hold inside my body, also increasing the amount of reiryoku i can output at any given moment which at the moment is very little, same as most mortals. However Freys tattoos seem to allow her to store and even manipulate large amounts reiryoku at will, I do want to ask her more about that and research it, but not in her current condition of course."
The man took a notebook out of his pocket and made a note of Freyleifs tattoos, he had only just thought about that as he was speaking. The mans eyes raised back to his cousin, "What was i saying? Oh yes, Reishi. As for its uses, im sure youre already aware that it can be refined into objects, artefacts, Blut, and even Ginto spells. The research i wish to conduct to start with will be using my own or any volunteers skills with Blut combined with the control i have with my spear to be amplify the effects of the skill set and possibly make new items that can induce Blut in those unable to do so themselves. To be quite honest Aodh, with this kind of research i cant give you a deadline for a finalised product as i am unsure if an 'end product' is even possible. I will of course supply regular updates and reports of any progress or set backs."
Fáelán stopped for a moment to collect his thoughts and let his words sink in to his cousins mind, "This wasn't in my requistion as it wasn't a necessity, however it will be quite helpful. An assistant of some sort would greatly increase my ability to do experiments and especially the paperwork." The man let out a sigh, he wasn't looking forward to the paperwork, his mind wandered back to topic at hand, "Perhaps that Schade lass, she seemed... nice."
Post by Aidan O'Mongan on Apr 26, 2017 16:10:12 GMT -5
Aodh nodded along as his cousin talked about his research topic and flicked through the dossier that had been provided to him which helped with keeping up with the verbal explanation. However when his cousin got to the end of his spiel the elder Quincy rolled his eyes.
"I am not giving you a woman Fáelán even if that is the only way you can get one." he responded with a tired sigh. "Besides cousin, not to sound like a snob but a Schade? Really? They're less a Noble House and more a guild of Thieves and Assassins that happen to be related." he said with a faint sound of disgust.
It was not lost on Aodh that he could sometimes, even disturbingly so, sound like his late Father.
Reaching into his breast pocket he took out a small silver tube about 5cm long. He shook the tiny contained causing a faint swashing sound to emanate from within. Flicking the cap off he poured the liquid within onto the palm of his hand causing the blue liquid to splash against his flesh and with a flick of his fingers the liquid appeared to evaporate into gas and float away.
"So let me get this straight. The basis of your research is to store Reiryoku in other forms? Including the possibility of pulling Reishi from the surroundings to store within our bodies as Reiryoku for use at a later date, meaning the amount of power being held by an individual will be beyond their soul's natural limit?" he repeated. It sounded very dangerous considering what happened to a Quincy who went past their limit to gather and use Reishi. However it could be very useful too although like many types of new technology it would be very abusable, almost like a temporary spiritual steroid from the sounds of things.
"This research will lead to Blut related research such as looking into techniques to implant Blut into those who are unable to use it naturally?" he continued neutrally not letting his voice sound like he either favoured or was against the idea.
"And at the end of all the time and resources being invested into this you feel there might be no beneficial outcome for the Order"
Aodh frowned back down at his page before glancing up "Oh and yes quite right. Please do not disturb her Majesty in her current condition."
Post by Fáelán O'Mongan on Apr 27, 2017 12:36:05 GMT -5
Fáelán shot a glare at his cousin before smiling, "A lass is a lass, Aodh. Besides, do you not think someone born and raised by such savages would have both physical and spiritual resiliance high enough to be able to stand up against the rigorous testing scientific experiments often demand of us?" Truth was he was just trying to get the pretty girl, but the reason he just gave sounded well thought out. Especially as he just came up with it on the spot.
Fáelán watched Aodh seemingly wash his hand with a Ginto tube, 'How wasteful. Someone had to put in effort to make that.' He shook his head slightly before raising his right hand and making two small balls of reishi appear, "Sort of, however the time it can be stored for will be severly limited, probably a couple of minutes at best." The balls of reishi merged into a single larger ball. The new sphere had a few cracks in it that appeared to be leaking reishi, "Think of it as stretching your soul slightly. Doing this allows to to hold more reiryoku, however it also starts to damage you soul. As long as you reduce thr strain quick enough to damage can be repaired, either by a healer of some sort, or over time if the damage is small enough. However if you dont purge quick enough, or try to hold to much reiryoku..." He dropped his gaze to his hand as another ball of reishi formed and then merged with the cracked larger ball. The cracks grew larger and spread acroos the surface until the sphere shatters and exploded. The man shook his hand slightly before looking back to his cousin, "That's the theory anyway."
Fáelán nodded, "That is the hope yes, if we can learn to give Blut to others just think how many more humans will survive Hollow attacks. Many die simply because the injuries they sustain are just too grave for current medical techniques to repair. Hmmm..." The man glanced back at his note book and wrote the words, "Healing Ginto?" When he raised his head to face Aodh again the furrow of his brow clearly showed his annoyance at his cousins comment, "No benefit? Surely as a teacher you are aware of the importance of learning. Gaining knowledge to better improve yourself and those around you. Whether that knowledge prove or disprove a theory. The knowldge gain from even a failed experiment can help to improve the next one or even open up an entirely new path of research previously unthought of." The man clicked his tongue, "No benefit indeed."

"I would be more worried about her stealing your research and giving it to her father." he told Fáelán lazily without looking up and still flicking through the documents in front of him. "They are not to be trusted as a whole cousin." he murmured "Maybe this girl is a diamond in the rough but she still likely answers to the leader of her family. Step carefully around her."
Glancing up he looked at Fáelán. "Sounds dangerous." he criticised "Can't say there's many Soul Healers around the Quincy Kingdom. Can't really see the worth for temporarily increasing one's Reiryoku when we carry around it in liquid form anyway."
Shrugged he nodded "The Blut however could be useful. I know us Echt Quincy are born with the natural ability to use Blut but the same can not be said of the much more common Gemischt bloodlines." he noted as his fingers tapped against the dark wood of his guest. "Quite the ability to protect oneself from damage rather than having to heal is much better. After all our Ginto abilities can't heal..." he paused and frowned "Well except for Freyleif's unique abilities."
Sighing Aodh shook his head "That sounds wonderful Fáelán...in a world filled with infinite money and a limitless roster of personnel. Unfortunately the Order is short on both."
Pushing himself to his feet he walked around his desk and gestured for the younger Quincy to follow him. "Come with me."
As they strode down the corridors Aodh sighed "We're dangerously stretched slim at the moment Fáelán...we simply don't have enough funds, people or time to do what must be done. It's why we're trying to rebuild. Strengthening the Monarchy is the most important short term goal and, unfortunately, that means empowering her military arm. The Order."
After walking for several minute he finally came the elevator and stepped inside waiting for the other Quincy to join him. Reaching over to the control panel Aodh selected floor -1 however the lift beeped causing the man to sigh and remove a security card from his pocket and swipe it against the reader, the console beeped and the elevator began to move.
"You haven't been down here have you?" he noted to his cousin. "Access is currently limited to her Majesty and her Sternritter."
The lift beeped and the doors opened. Aodh strode out and gestured at some double doors with two Knights standing on either side of it. "That is the main library it makes the ones you have used up until now look like a children's book club." he told his cousin with a soft chuckle before leaning him down the corridor to the right. The two kept walking until the reached a door with a card reader. Aodh swiped his card causing the lock to click open which he pushed open.
"Anyway I think this will interest you more right now." he stated as he stepped aside to reveal the newly commissioned laboratory inside.

Fáelán shook his head slightly, he knew Aodh was right, "I suppose you have a point. If she's useful I'll ask for her help, and I'll be careful around her anyway, happy?" The man nods at the next question, "It would be dangerous, but eh..." He shrugged, "Being a Quincy in general is dangerous. As is being around a pregnant teenager who doesnt have full control of her montrous power." A small cough escaped the man as he realised he might have been a bit too casual about the Queen. A raised eyebrow greeted the next comment, "And how many Ginto tubes can you carry, cousin? Granted you are the prodigy here, but even you have a limited amount of body space to store the tubes."
Fáelán wrote the words 'Healing Ginto' next to Freyleifs name in his notebook, be fore standing up and following Aodh. "You make a good point, Aodh. I hadn't thought about military applications, but I'll see what i can come up with for you." As the pair stepped into the elevator he turned and gave a confused look at the beeping, "A basement? Do castles have basements?"
Fáelán followed Aodh down the corridor of the basement, "Where are you taking me Aodh, am I even allowed to be down here? Wait, a library? In the basement?" He massaged his temple slightly, 'Just how big is this place? I get this s a royal castle but still.'
As Aodh opened the door and ushered Fáelán through the door, his look of confusion changed into awe. He looked around the room, it was a laboratory. Had Aodh managed to get this put together after he mentioned it? Was he going to give him a lab all along? In the far corner of the room was a corner desk than spanned half of the back wall adn extended several feet along the other. As he took a step into lab, he took a look around behind the door, there was a relatively large tank similar to the ones in his lab in La Colonia except this was made of soul-silver nstead of Hollow-glass and was about half the size. 'I'm probably going to need another one of these, or at least a bigger one.' His gaze raised to the walls, they were fairly dreary in colour, nothing a little bit of decorating couldn't fix. The walls almost completely covered in empty shelves, ready to be covered in notes and books. 'Soon, these shelves will be full of knowledge and information to help our kind.'
Fáelán turned back to hs cousin with grinning from ear to ear, "So much for limited resources. You managed to set all this up since the party? Did you not have something better to do? Like all that paperwork in your office or perhaps fending off the Freys advances?" He raised his eyebrow inquisitively at his cousin and wondered if she was still flirting with 'Mr. Icicles' or had found someone else to play with.
Post by Aidan O'Mongan on Apr 28, 2017 18:08:41 GMT -5
Aodh nodded "I'll trust you to use your own judgement." he replied.
"Yes that is not wrong." he admitted "But more than that she's a figure. The lynch pin that is holding this fragile enterprise together." he continued with a sigh. He had reached out with his spiritual senses but no one was within earshot of the two O'Mongans.
Holding up a hand he let Reishi gather and condense until the man was holding what appeared to be a steel bar. It had only been very recently that he had become capable of making such metallic looking objects, more importantly they could now last indefinitely.
"Everything's so fragile cousin." he said softly "We look strong. This castle, the knights, the militaristic appearance. But our people continue to suffer. To be unsure. Instability, uncertainty, fear. Yes we appear strong but..." he cut off and slammed the steel bar into his hand but it simply shattered that glass, the little pieces dropped to the ground then the bar, remains and shards both, vanished as it disintegrated back into Reishi. "But it's all appearances."
It looked into his cousin's eyes "That's why this is so important." he said softly.
Aodh couldn't have been more honest if he tried. In fact the thought made him feel a little guilty. Aodh knew he was being selfish when he had assigned his two closest companions as his direct subordinates. He was tired, very tried and yet had only held the role for such a short time. Would things get better? He hoped so. However he was selfishly taking two of the only Quincy he trusted and making them work for him to try and spread the weight. The thought only made him feel more exhausted and for a brief moment he appeared almost as tired as he felt. His eye lids grew heavy, the familiar feeling of a migraine began to pulse and his shoulders slumped. It lasted a mere second before he pulled himself together.
He had to appear strong. That was his job now.
"Yes you are allowed down here because...well because I said so." he said with a shrug. "As for Ginto tubes I suppose I could carry around as many of the little things as I wanted, 5 cm big and all that. Seriously? I usually carry a dozen, more if I know I'll need them but I also don't rely on techniques that require them as you know."
Letting his cousin observe the lab in silence Aodh leant against the wall. At the question he smiled faintly "Maybe it's just perks of being the boss' cousin?" he asked.
Truth was the lab hadn't cost quite as much as it appeared. Much of the equipment had been of Quincy design specifically and Aodh had created them himself through his masterful use of Reishi Manipulation. It had been exhausting and time consuming, not to mention the fact that he'd had to start over with half the gear before because of mistakes. However Fáelán didn't need to know that, he knew his cousin would either feel bad about it or angry that Aodh had put that much time into it.
Shaking his head slightly "Besides if I had to list off all the things I had to do we would be here for the next few decades." he muttered "As for her majesty I actually haven't seen her since the party. There's been too much managerial administration to do." he added downplaying the sheer volume and complexity of his work.
"Oh." he added and pulled a card out of his pocket. "This will let you down here and give you access to your lab." he said handing over the security card "It will not give you access to the main library. As I stated it is highly restricted."
He paused "However if you think access will help you with your research I will arrange it but you will have to separately request each access. Where you go and what you read will be heavily monitored. Also there will be sections you simply can't enter."
The Quincy Library was, in Aodh's opinion, one of the most important and dangerous things under Quincy control. Some of the knowledge in there should simply not be read even if it shouldn't be cast aside either.
"Also any resources you need simply submit to my office and someone will evaluate and see to it." he assured Fáelán before pausing and glancing at the lab then his cousin "Will this do for what you have in mind?"
Post by Fáelán O'Mongan on May 8, 2017 16:05:49 GMT -5
Fáelán watched his cousins demonstration with the synthesised bar. It was an apt comparison, "That is quite true, yes. However ive noticed that most organisations seem to operate that way. More bark than bite, so to speak." The man frowned as the bar simply began to fall apart, he raised his right hand and the reishi that was dispursing instead rushed into his hand. "Waste not, want not." Ribbons of reiryoku raised from his right hand and wrapped around the now sphere of reishi hovering above his palm. The dark blue reishi steadily lightened in shade until it match the pale blue of the ribbons, and the two became indistinguishable from one another, Fáelán stepped over to the tank and pressed the sphere into the side of it, and the ball steadily sank through the edge of the container and the dropped to the bottom with a small echoing splash.
He smiled at his cousin, "Shouldn't you check in on the Queen every so often? She is rather vulnerable right now. Besides, she seems to like you." The mans smile flickered to a smirk for a moment before returning as he took the card from Aodh, "Oh, thanks. And yes at some point, multiple points in fact, i will be wanting access to the knowledge in the library. Some one may have aleady done a project i want to do, or at least part of it. That will save both time and resources. But I'll submit the requests as i need them. Otherwise, yes, this lab is quite sufficient for now, thank you."
"Hmm, well, as this is officially my lab now, i suppose i should set up rules. Rule number one, whenever you leave you have to donate into the tank." He waved his hand slightly, "And before you get uppity, im going to need a lot of reiryoku for my experiments, i cant supply all of it by myself." Fáelán shrugged, he didn't like admitting his flaws, "Well, I suppose i should start getting this place ready to work, and let you get back to your paperwork, unless there was anything else you needed, cousin?"

Aodh watched his cousin harvest the Reishi for himself but turned his attention away almost immedately feeling bored by the man's activities. The elder Quincy was already mentally organising the rest of his appoints in the next few hours. Pulling a pocket watch out of his pocket he frowned at the timepiece before sighing as he realised there'd barely be time to grab a coffee. Maybe he could have something delivered to the training grounds.
"Hmm?" he responded as he snapped the watch shut. "Not really. Her Majesty will call me whenever she needs me. Frankly I'd rather she took any free time to rest, the girl's been working herself to hard."
Aodh ignored the man's idiot smirk, his jokes were already old the first time he cracked them never mind the hundredth. "You'll be given access on an as needed basis of course. Your research isn't vital enough to warrant unlimited access so you'll be given a chaperone on any occassion when your are permitted entrance." he told his cousin absentmindedly as Fáelán took the card.
Aodh rolled his eyes "Whatever crazy rules you want Fáelán. Although please try to remember that you can't actually demand anything from a Sternritter." he noted as he held up a hand. Reishi was torn through the air in mere seconds to wreath around the man's hands in the form of burning blue light. With a snap of his fingers he sent the Reishi towards the tank which it seeped through the contained immediately. "Happy?"
Shaking his head he turned and started walking back down the hall. "No, I have a meeting in a few minutes. Have fun cousin." he called back as he strode off back to the elevator. It was time to prepare the next training session for the Castle's Knights.

Seireitei is crumbling and the Gotei is a shell of its former self. Ravaged by the plague, the surviving Shinigami struggle to maintain the balance, but with so few of them left, the work is taxing and their fortress-city has fallen to neglect. Spread thin across all fronts, their diminished presence has been noted by friend and foe alike.
The Arrancar have rebuilt Las Noches and are rallying. The throne remains empty, but self-styled Espada have risen up from among them and are vying for control, each one endlessly testing the others’ weaknesses. Too evenly matched for any one of them to claim the crown, they bide their time, waiting for the opportune moment.
On Earth, all seems well—but there is a war being fought in the shadows as the mortals find themselves lacking the protection they once had and so sorely need. The Quincy, having realized the oppressive specter of the Shinigami is no more, are flourishing, and are fighting the Hollow-breeds with renewed vigor.
